Blog / Mission Accomplished!

You may recall that Trinus put out a call to our clients for computers that were no longer of use to their organizations.  Our plan was to collect these computers and refurbish them by secure-wiping the hard drives and re-installing the O/S and selected free applications.  We wanted to turn these units into usable home computers that could be given to the unfortunate Ft. McMurray residents that lost everything.

Through your generosity, we received many shipments of used computer equipment.  Our staff sorted through the parts and were able to piece together enough usable components to make twenty functioning computers.  We added in several new keyboard/mouse combinations we had left over from another project – and some cables to complete the systems.  By mid October we had the systems ready to go.

Now came the surprisingly difficult part; giving them away. We wanted to hand them over to a responsible agency to insure the computers would go to those most in need. This turned out to be the hardest part of the operation.  We tried:
Our local MLA- no response.
The Red Cross – a polite reply but they didn’t know what to do with them
The Salvation Army – again a polite response, but no help
The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo – they couldn’t use them ….
… but they made a suggestion; Habitat for Humanity in Ft. McMurray. We contacted HfH, and after a few Emails, we made arrangements for them to be picked up.  This past Sunday, the computers left our office and were on their way to Ft. McMurray.

Mission Accomplished!

Twenty used computers may not seem like much when compared to the massive relief effort that is required to rebuild people’s devastated lives, but it just might be a big deal to one or more families that can get connected to the Internet world again.  If that’s the case, then it’s all worth it.

A BIG THANK YOU to all those who helped us with equipment donations. We couldn’t have done it without you!
