Town of Rimbey Website
Town of RimbeyFebruary 24, 2009: The Town of Rimbey is known as the “community on the move,” that’s probably why they have a cool classic blue truck in their logo.  The town is moving ahead well with their thriving farming and oil region.  And the community is quite moving with all their clubs and services for the community.  With their new and improved website from Trinus, Rimbey is speeding ahead of the pack.

AAMDC Upgrade
AAMDCFebruary 5, 2009: Trinus performed a network upgrade for the Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties (AAMDC).  They ordered a bunch of items including a high end 3Com X5 firewall.  It is so high end that it can probably resist a real fire.  But the main event was the acquisition of a Dell server running an Intel Xeon E5450 64bit 3GHz quad core monster with 8GB of RAM.  We know that it would be obsolete in a week or so, but it is quite the muscle machine at the moment.

World Vision

World VisionJanuary 29, 2009: The staff at Trinus collectively sponsored a number of children from World Vision. It might be a small gesture, but we want to do our part in making a difference in our world. This action also puts into practice our vision to promote “furthering the cause of justice worldwide.”

Uncovering Canadian Corporate Spies

Corporate Spy"Intelligence reports also suggest that China has an estimated 1,000 agents and informants secretly operating in Canada."

Once again Canadians are shocked over the discovery (better defined as realization) that spies exist and operate on Canadian soil. This same reaction was observed immediately after the terrorist plot to assassinate the Prime Minister was uncovered. In the analytical community, more pressure is being placed on the demand for in depth data mining. How else do you report on the "day in the life of a spy" unless you have the skills and tools to dig down several layers of hidden secrets. But the need for "spy catchers" is not as great in the law enforcement or national security community, as it is the commercial sector. Industrial espionage is alive and well and slicing at the heart of leading Canadian industries. Are the private security forces and intelligence analysts equipped to combat these spy games?

But don’t take my word for it…

Here are a few tips you can take advantage of:

How do You Make a Million Dollars in the Software Game?
DollarsAnswer: Start with a Billion Dollars. This is an old joke that I use on my brother-in-law from time to time, except it has a farming slant to it. The message really is this: without some careful planning, software development - especially custom projects where the goals are not clearly defined - can quickly get out of hand and out of budget. RAD (Rapid Application Development) quickly becomes SAD (Slow Application Development).

What Really Bugs Me are Bugs

Everyone has them, no one likes them, and we all deal with them: BUGS - software bugs that is. Nothing is perfect, and with today's software reaching into millions of lines of code, a few mistakes are bound to creep in. Fortunately, modern and robust programming techniques have eradicated a lot of common mistakes, or at least relegated them to annoyances rather than show stoppers - as long as your developer is following a regimented development cycle.
