If you have installed the latest release of i2's Analyst's
Notebook, v 6.0.55, you may have noticed some changes. Here's one of them. When you add an entity, link or attribute to a
chart you will notice a new option SEMANTICS. Haven't noticed that yet? Try adding a new item to a chart, and look at
the item properties (double click to open it) and look for it under the
Style\Type option.
So what's so great about Semantics? If you have ever created a large chart with a
variety of entities that are similar, for example you may have a chart with
males, females, investigators, subscribers, victims and so on. In previous version of Analyst's Notebook
conducting a search of all persons on the chart would require a search on each entity
type. That has all changed with
semantics. By default, all entity types
are given a semantic type. In this example,
these entities would have a semantic type of person which means that I can now
search all entities that have a semantic type of person in one search. What a time (and effort) saver!!
Consistent and thoughtful use of semantics will
revolutionize the way you can analyze and search your chart data.
To learn more about semantics, see the manual "Guide to
power2" that was shipped with your software.
As always I'm interested in hearing how you put this product to work for
you. Enjoy!!
