Is Voice Over IP (VoIP) the next stage in technology convergence? I have been made aware of many new organizations looking at acquiring VoIP technology. I believe that this will start immediately and gain momentum with small and medium size customers as VOIP systems move into the technology mainstream. These businesses will understand the benefits of VoIP, which is more than long distance savings. Additional benefits include: ease of administration, simplicity and flexibility in moving locations, and cost-effective voice mail.
The estimated market changes are forecasted to be:
- Companies with fewer than 100 employees make up 98% of the businesses in the United States
- VoIP adoption rate is currently only 5% in this segment
- With better VoIP delivery options, this segment is set to take off, growing to 35% adoption by 2008
