Microsoft released an update for Windows XP to automatically adjust the computer clock for revised Daylight Saving Time in 2007. This is an important update since a lot of website applications depend on a client computer clock to process data. Setting the wrong date or time could be costly to organizations if the issue is not addressed.

There has been a 67% increase in the volume of spam e-mail since August according to the U.S. Joint Task Force- Global Network Operations. The largest portion of this increase was tracked back to Russian cyber crime groups and a campaign called "pump and dump." This tactic touts "thinly held, low price, stocks." In its less severe form, the "pump and dump" scheme seeks to convince recipients to buy a certain stock that was purchased cheaply by the attacker. If enough recipients buy the stock, the attacker can sell for a profit.

Among the top 2006 Internet security issues are compliance with the U.S. Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) and its Canadian equivalent, boosting IT experts on staff, email management, improving user-authentication, and grappling with IT outsourcing. New SOX-related regulations are expected to go into effect, and Canadian companies must also handle new rules based on SOX that were released by the Canadian Securities Administrators in 2004. As summer holidays draw to a close, and staff come back to find their inboxes full of mostly junk e-mail, I thought it may be time to write a post about e-mail organization. It also follows Bradley's "Do You Treat your E-mail as Evidence" post with some practical tips for e-mail management.
Now, I will be the first to admit that e-mail administration is not my favorite thing to do, but Outlook 2003 has some good tools that help even the most organizationally challenged individual.
